CEO of Obsidian Enertainment, Feargus Urquhart, has confirmed that the studio is currently working on Pillars Of Eternity 2 along with an unannounced Tim Cain/Leonard Boyarsky title.
Feargus Urquhart confirmed this news in an interview with Gamepressure at Digital Dragons 2016 in Krakow.
Feargus Urquhart said in the interview:
Eternity 2 is not announced, It seems silly for me not to acknowledge it, though. If someone asks ‘Are you working on it?’, I respond ‘Well, wouldn’t you work on it?’. So then they say ‘So you must be working on it,’ and then I’m like ‘Well, yeah.
He also said that it is likely that the studio will again make use of crowdfunding to develop Pillars Of Eternity 2.
Feargus said:
That is probably something that we want to look at [in terms of crowdfunding]. I think people felt like we delivered on our promise, and then that felt like we could go with Eternity 2 and people would support us again, because they trust us.
He did not specified when this kickstarter campaign will begin, or Obsidian will try to look at other crowdfunding solutions.
Feargus Urquhart further mentioned that there is a small group of developers within Obsidian who are working on something completely new and names of Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky came up. He also hinted that this new project has something to do with Unreal Engine.
Pillars Of Eternity is a RPG developed by Obsidian Entertainment and published by Paradox Interactive. The game is a spiritual successor to Baldur’s Gate and Icewind Dale. Obsidian started a crowdfunding campaign for the game in September 2012 which raised $4,163,208, at the time the highest crowdfunded video game on Kickstarter. The game uses the Unity engine.
