EA is betting big of Josef Fares, the developer behind Brother: A Tale of Two Sons. Fares’ game received critical acclaim and won numerous awards and earned enough money for Fares to open a new studio called Hazelight.
The studio is currently working on a new project that was teased back at Game Awards 2014. Since then things have been quite but Hazelight has just popped back up into limelight. However, it isn’t to show its new game.
The studio has received $3.7 million from FIFA creator Electronic Arts, according to Hazelight’s year-end financials. The money isn’t for the acquisition of the studio as far as we know. EA is publishing the game, which we already knew, however, the exact amount spent by the company was unknown till now.
Hazelight will have full control over the game and has full creative freedom. However, EA spending big money on Hazelight’s first game is big news. Not only will this help the studio develop a better game but Hazelight can benefit from EA’s decades of experience in the gaming industry.
EA is doing its own event in June and won’t be present at E3 2016. Since EA is funding Hazelight’s first game, in a manner similar to Unravel, we can expect this project to be shown during EA PLAY.
