PS4 and Xbox One Console Install Base Reaches 43 Million
PS4 and Xbox One console install base has reached 43 million. This shows a steady growth in people moving to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles.
This data has been revealed by the NPD group and GfK Chart-Track and reveals that in North America the install base of PlayStation 4 and Xbox One has reached 43 million as of December 31, 2015. This is a growth of 11 million since September 30. This shows an impressive growth as gamers move onto the more powerful consoles.
“The numbers are based on hardware sales from North America (United States & Canada) and Europe (Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and United Kingdom etc…). The US accounts for more than 50% of the next gen install base in North America and Europe.”
It should be no surprise that there was a rise in the number of consoles purchased in this time, especially (and as the article states) this is the Christmas period where demand is expected to be high. This is good news for the games industry as a whole, not just PlayStation or Xbox.
“When compared to last gen, the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 had a total install base of 28 million in North America and Europe at the same point in time when you align launches.”
This is a more interesting result, and shows that there is a growth in gaming that is surpassing the previous generation consoles. Which shows PS4 and Xbox One console install base is impressive. Whether this success will continue is yet to be seen.
It’s well worth giving the article a read as it goes into much more detail about how successful the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are doing. Will the release of the Nintendo NX have an impact on these results?
