Vivendi Wanted to Take Over Assassin’s Creed Creator Ubisoft: Rumor
Vivendi is looking to increase its share in Ubisoft and wants to hold the majority shares at the company. According to a rumor, Vivendi wants to take over Ubisoft but apparently the French developer isn’t interested.
Ubisoft is one of the hottest developers in our industry today. The creator of Prince of Persia, Assassin’s Creed, Splinter Cell, Ghost Recon and many other franchises has won the hearts of millions around the world.
Ubisoft’s CEO Yves Guillemot noted in an interview with Financial Times that Vivendi President Vincent Bolloré wanted to talk “about potential synergies.”
The company already owns just blow 15% of Ubisoft while Guillemot and his brothers, who created the French giant own 9%. On the other hand, Vivendi also has over 11% shares in Activision Blizzard and believes in creating synergies between its subsidiaries.
Vivendi has its fingers dipped in lots of entertainment mediums. We are talking movies, music, and video games. They don’t have any priorities so we can’t say how a takeover may have affected Ubisoft’s game development process. Ubisoft focuses on creating the best possible experience and that’s how Guillemot and his brothers want things to remain.
Recently Activision Blizzard bought back 63% stake from Vivendi after which the company grew 30%. So you ca imagine our concerns. Anyways, for now Ubisoft will remain the way it is.
