EA and Nexon working on Need for Speed Edge a New MMO

With the imminent release of Need for Speed from EA it looks like another game based on the popular franchise is on the way. Though we have few details about it yet, it will be an MMO.

Need for Speed Edge has been teased on a new website with a countdown that ends in seven days (at the time of writing). Featuring a trailer that actually focuses on speed the fact that EA is working with Nexon is a clue as to where the game is going.

The Korean MMO publisher and developer are working with EA to create the game which will use the Frostbite 3 engine. EA will develop the game and Nexon will publish it. This hints that the game will follow the same route as other western games and be a free-to-play MMO like Civilization Online, Borderlands Online and Call of Duty Online.

The fact that there is a website like this advertising the game may mean that the focus will be to expand the game into an MMO and hopefully not just for the Asian market, though this is probably the case. We’ll have to wait until EA and Nexon reveal more about their plans and we get to see what the game looks like.

It will be interesting to see if Need for Speed Edge will be similar to Ghost’s Need for Speed which is being released tomorrow. With the reception of the game being lukewarm, many fans of Need for Speed may be hoping this MMO will offer something different than the new remake.
