Gotham: Bruno Heller Discusses Season 2 and Fish Mooney’s Possible Return

Showrunner Bruno Heller talks about Gotham season 2 and the possible return of Jada Pinkett Smith’s Fish Mooney.

Gotham season 1 will be history by next Tuesday, and as the first season is nearing its finale, there are certain questions that need answers.

Showrunner Bruno Heller answers some of those questions regarding season 2 and Jada Pinkett Smith’s Fish Mooney.

Smith was certain a few weeks back that she signed up for only 1 year and the year is up, however, Heller believes that there is a possibility of her character’s return. After Smith’s statement of the year ending, everyone predicted that her character might be taking the eternal fall.

However now a new possibility has come up, Mooney might not actually have to die or even if she does ‘nobody dies forever in DC universe’.

“Personally I’m still hoping that Jada will be back. One of the problems of making a show like this is that you need actors who can really be big characters. You either have bigness or you don’t, and Jada is big in spades. She’s done a wonderful job for us and nobody dies forever in the DC Universe, necessarily, so I’m hoping whatever happens at the end of this season that Fish can and will be back.”

Heller is optimistic about Mooney’s return, he also believes that Jada has played Mooney’s role like a spade and she has been wonderful throughout. If she agrees to return, she will be welcomed with open arms.

“You have to do it bravely and with the intention of, ‘Alright, this is going to be a big character,’ and write it that way. But if it ain’t working, especially with the stakes so high because this is a beautiful, iconic world that you don’t want to mar with crappy characters, the security we all have is that if a character doesn’t work, people will forget about them when they die and go away.”

Heller’s approach of writing the script only works when keeping with the ups and downs but believing that the viewers will forget a poorly written character set off as a major shot might be an understatement.

Two new characters are being introduced in season 2 namely Clayface and the Mad Hatter.

Season 1 ends next Tuesday on Fox with finale titled ‘All Happy Families Are Alike’.
