The Vanishing of Ethan Carter Errors, Crashes, Tweaks and Fixes
You must be aware of the fact the Sherlock Holmes isn’t the only detective solving crimes in town. There are others too, and one such detective (slightly different though) is going to solve a case based on The Vanishing of Ethan Carter.
Being an independent studio, I will have to say that Astronauts has done a great job with the game by utilizing the power of Unreal Engine 3 in an effective manner. Visuals are great and game mechanics aren’t that bad either. Overall, it’s a recommendation for those who love to solve mysteries.
That was the good part, and now a little troublesome part is that the game has some issues that are needed to be addressed. And if you have landed on this page, then you must be looking for solutions.
Following is a list of common problems being faced by the game. Feel free to browse through to find a possible solution to your problem.
#1 The Vanishing of Ethan Carter Save Game Issue
Some users have reported that they are uncertain of their progress being saved in the game. You should know that the game supports an auto-save feature and those animated dots that appear after a sequence or scene are actually indication that the game is being saved.
Like all other games, it’s highly recommended that you don’t turn off your machine while those dots are appearing as it can corrupt your save file. Developer has also mentioned that they might change the save bar to something more prominent in the future to avoid the confusion.
#2 The Vanishing of Ethan Carter Elevator Shaft Bug
Currently, the game has a known bug where players while using the elevator if somehow fall into it, they get stuck. If you are experiencing this bug too then it’s recommended that you restart the checkpoint and don’t try to peek into the elevator shaft. Hopefully, an official fix will be rolled out soon.
#3 The Vanishing of Ethan Carter Performance and Lag Fix
If you are experiencing Lag (not the FPS drop) during the gameplay, go to the settings menu and under controls section, change Camera Smoothing to “0”.
#4 The Vanishing of Ethan Carter Crash Fix
If you are using a 32-bit OS with relatively memory, you might experience crashes while playing the game or the game might not even start.
In that case, you can try out this workaround to fix it.
If that doesn’t work, try disabling the anti-aliasing option from the launcher. You can turn it on again from within the game. Also, make sure that your drivers are up to date.
#5 The Vanishing of Ethan Carter Doesn’t Start
There are a few things you can try to make it work:
- First, try running the game in different compatibility modes by right-clicking and then properties. Don’t forget to run the game as administrator.
- If that doesn’t work, go to game’s directory and copy all files from Win32 folder to Win64 folder without overwriting any of it.This has solved the issue for some.
#6 The Vanishing of Ethan Carter Stuttering Fix
If you are experiencing stutter during the gameplay, try out the following:
- Make sure that GPU drivers are up to date.
- If you are using SLI/Crossfire, try running the game using a single card.
- Some users have reported that running the game in a borderless window has solved the issue for them.
- Also, if you are using a laptop, make sure that your game is being run using the dedicated video memory and not the integrated one.
#7 The Vanishing of Ethan Carter Crashes at Graphics Selection Screen
If you are using the beta version of MSI Afterburner, try closing it in the background and see if the crash goes away. If that doesn’t help, try the workarounds mentioned in #4. Change the type of AA FXAA instead of MSAA has also fixed the issue for some users.
#8 The Vanishing of Ethan Carter Crash – Ran Out of Video Memory! Exiting
The error is self-explanatory so if you are getting this message while your game crashes, you are have low video memory (1GB or less). In that case, you need to lower the texture details in the game to minimum.
