Bioshock Infinite PC Crashes, Errors, Freezes, Tweaks, Performance Fixes

By   /   3 years ago

Bioshock Infinite was supposed to be one major title of the calender year, but I never knew that it would be hailed so much in the critics’ world. The game has received almost perfect reviews, and no reviewer seems to find any major flaw in it.

Irrational games, no doubt, has done a fantastic job with the game. The best part is that the game is being released on PC on the same time as Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and it goes without saying that the PC version of the game is better looking than the consoles.

Now, if you have been eager to pinch in and get your hands dirty with Bioshock Infinite, the golden moment has arrived. Wait, what? Can’t seem to run the game properly? Or some other issue is spoiling the fun? If that’s the case, you can refer to our troubleshooting guide to find a probable solution for your concerned problem.

#1 Bioshock Infinite PC Save Files?
Well, like it not, the game comes with a checkpoint system so you won’t be able to save/load anywhere you want. You can only restart the game from the last saved checkpoint.

#2 Bioshock Infinite PC – How to Improve Permanence (AMD Users)
First things first, make sure that you are meeting the minimum requirements of the game. If you have a good PC and you aren’t getting the performance you expect, I will recommend that you upgrade your GPU drivers.

#3 Bioshock Infinite PC – How to Improve Performance (Nvidia Users)
Likewise, Nvidia has also released the optimized version of drivers to boost the performance of Bioshock Infinite.

#4 Can’t Launch Bioshock Infinite
Although preload allows you to download the game before time, but you can’t play it before it’s released in your region. Either wait for the game to officially release for your region, or restart Steam and try again.

#5 Bioshock Infinite PC Controls Problems
If you can’t seem to make the game work via keyboard/mouse and the camera keeps on shifting without your permission, make sure that you don’t have any other joypad/joystiq connected to your system.

You may be able to resolve the problem by restarting the router. Furthermore, verifying integrity of the game cache may fix it.

#6 Bioshock Infinite – The ordinal 345 could not be located in the dynamic link library COMCTL32.dll Error
The error most probably pops up because you are running XP as operating system. Right? If that’s the case, I am afraid that you will have to upgrade your OS or you can wait for any un-official patch to arrive from community’s end.

#7 Bioshock Infinite Overheating Issue
If you are running PC on max, there are chances that your GPU may get overheated. In that case, I will recommend that you lower down setting a bit and keep V-sync on which can help in keeping the temperature in a stable range. Generally, as long as the temperature stays below 90 degrees, you are fine but if it goes beyond that, you should stop playing and give it a rest.

#8 Bioshock Infinite Disappearing Bodies, A Bug?
I think, as long as you are getting the loot from the bodies, it doesn’t matter that they exist or not. Anyway, it’s not a bug so no fixes can be listed.

#9 Bioshock Infinite – Game Crashes Now and Then
Firstly, it is recommended that you verify your game files to replace the damaged/corrupted files. If you are still getting the crashes, make sure that you have the newest drivers released by your GPU manufacturer as they have been optimized for Bioshock Infinite.

#10 Bioshock Infinite – How to Change FOV
If you are looking to alter the FOV in Bioshock Infinite, it can be done in the following way:

You need to go to Documents\My Games\BioShock Infinite\XGame\Config

  • Open up “XUserOptions.ini” using a text editor (notepad).
  • Find (Ctrl+F) the line “MaxUserFOVOffsetPercent=”
  • Change it to “MaxUserFOVOffsetPercent=30.000000” or any other value you want for your FOV.

#11 Bioshock Infinite – Missing Executable Error
If verifying the cache doesn’t work, you need to delete the local content (uninstall the complete game) and re-install it. Also make sure that you have sufficient free space on your hard drive to run it.

#12 Bioshock Infinite – Download Stuck at some Percentage (%)
If your download is stuck, you should follow the steps mentioned in the link. If that doesn’t help, you should try renaming the ClientRegistry.blob to resolve the issue.

#13 Bioshock Infinite – How to Disable Aim Assist and Make Mouse Movements Smooth
You can do it by editing the config file like mentioned before for the FOV.

  • Go to \Steam\steamapps\common\BioShock Infinite\Engine\Config\BaseInput.
  • You need to turn EnableMouseSmoothing, Softlockaim and Aim Assist to False.

#14 Bioshock Infinite – Game Crash Fix for Pre-Loaders
The Pre-load seems to be giving some problem to users. If you are one of them, and no other fix has worked out for you, you should try a fresh install to make the error go away.

#15 Bioshock Infinite – The game Crashes with Error “Bioshock Infinite has Stopped Working”
Again, make sure that you have installed the drivers released by both Nvidia and AMD yesterday. Also don’t forget to verify your game cache to replace the damaged/corrupt files.

BioShock infinite won’t start on my PC. It brings up the dialogue box to select to play the game or to launch the benchmarker and when I choose to play it starts to launch but then stops and the dialogue box comes back again.

Everything was running perfectly for the first couple hours. Now, on monument island, right when I press the button in the elevator, the game crashes…. happened multiple times and I cannot go any further.

I can’t play the game since it is launched, I have a loading animation on the top right hand of the screen, a steam window saying I can open steam during the game, and then … nothing :(. The loading logo disappears and let me with a black screen… I installed latest nvidia driver on my laptop, but nothing changed. I’m on a gamer notebook bought two years ago with a geforce GTX460 M in it… If you have any clue, please let me know.
PS : English isn’t my native language, please forgive weird sentences :)

I ran the benchmark; minimum framerate in any scene was above 35 on ultra settings. First time I played It was fine for around 2-3 hours, now it crashes after 1-5 minutes. I have the latest Nvidia driver and have verified the cached files. It freezes with music still playing and I am forced to ctrl+alt+delete to quit.

Can anybody help me with problem #6 “The ordinal 345” ?

  • Reyom

So, I’m stumped. I preloaded the game, launched it, it ran through the
start up videos for 2k, Irrational Games, Unreal Technology and AMD then
shuts down my whole computer. No crash message, no errors of any kind,
just turns off the entire machine. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling
as well as validating the game cache with no luck. Still the exact same
thing. A few seconds after the AMD video ends about 20-30 seconds after
launching the game, the whole computer shuts down. No other programs or
games provide this issue. My hardware is more than capable of running
the game and I am out of ideas on possibilities to fix it without any
    errors to work with

theres not one point mentioning smth for freezes, sigh..

  • Reyom

I’m having an issue where as soon as I start the game, it plays the little videos for 2K, Irrational games, and AMD, then immediately shuts down my PC. No error, no crash message, just the whole PC turns off. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled and validated the Steam cache so far with no issues. i7 processor, 6 gigs of RAM, GeForce 670 with the latest drivers. I’m stumped since there’s no error message of any kind to run off of.

  • Will

I can’t seem to save the game, I get an unknown read error everytime I get to a new checkpoint, anyime I stop playing I lose everything that I played.

  • Corolyn

As soon as I get to the preacher in the welcome area, the game freezes and crashes… I’ve verified my game cache and it didn’t help, I’ve also lowered the graphics even though it shouldn’t be a problem on my system…
