Microsoft May Expand Its Game Pass To Nintendo Switch, Epic Games Store, And More

In a recent interview, Xbox heads Ben Decker and Matt Percy revealed that they are planning to Xbox Game Pass to other platforms such as Epic Games Store and Nintendo Switch

During a post-event interview with Game Reactor at Gamescom 2019, Ben Decker, Head of Gaming Services at Microsoft and Matt Percy, the Head and Senior Director of Xbox Live Business talked a bit the future of Game Pass. According to the heads, Microsoft is interesting in Game Pass going to other platforms apart from Xbox like the Epic Games Store.

While speaking about Game Pass’ future, Head of Games Services Ben Decker said,

“You know, we would like to see Game Pass on all platforms ultimately and I think that is a long term goal. We don’t have any specific plans today, but we would love to see Game Pass really go everywhere.”

Now it is unclear just which platforms Decker means but from what we understand, he also means other platforms which are controlled by other companies like Nintendo Switch and the Epic Games Store.

When asked about whether if Microsoft has plans for bringing its titles to the Epic Games Store, Aaron Greenberg the Marketing Manager of Xbox at Microsoft said in a separate statement,

Of course, we would like, or rather, we would have no problem doing it but Epic should focus more on the community, at the moment it is clear that their goal is to gain market share with the exclusives, to the benefit of the developers, but on the community side we are still far behind Steam.

It will be interesting to see just how Microsoft will manage to expand its games via Game Pass to other platforms since Epic Games is mostly focusing on grabbing exclusive titles for its Epic Games Store for some time now. Microsoft and Xbox have been trying to do something new. Just quite recently, Xbox revealed that it is considering to do surprise game additions to its Game Pass without any prior notices. And again, since this is something that may happen in the long future, the best thing to do right now is to stay patient and wait.
