In the sales charts for the UK, there seems to be a hint of the apocalypse in our newest year of 2014, as Aliens lurk in the shadow of the top ten list. Here’s the list of games sold during that strange period somewhere in the depression of holiday sales:
- FIFA 14
- Call of Duty: Ghosts
- Battlefield 4
- Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag
- Grand Theft Auto V
- Lego Marvel Super Heroes
- Need For Speed Rivals
- Killzone Shadow Fall
- Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition
- Aliens: Colonial Marines
Just about any title is a known big hit, but the resurgence of Aliens: Colonial Marines is rather strange, certainly since its original release dates back to February 12, 2013. Probably, the reason would be that the title was heavily dumped onto gamers during the holiday period and has heavily dropped its price in general.
During sales, Amazon even went as far as putting up the major release for $2. It encouraged gamers to pick up the shooter just for laughs.
Upon release, Aliens: Colonial Marines was bombarded with criticism for being an unfinished, downsized and completely broken game. There was little collision detection, path finding was poor, enemies would just blatantly ignore players and glitches were plentiful.
These issues lead publisher Sega to eventually drop a gargantuan update for the game, requiring approximately 4Gb of download space. It became playable after that, but only if you enjoy a dumbed down, linear shooter, where half the battle is already done for you.
What you should take away from this is that you shouldn’t support this game, unless you want more of these lies from Gearbox Software on your plate. Instead, perhaps we can cautiously look towards Sega passing the new Alien release to Total War developer Creative Assembly.
Then again, their latest in Total War II: Rome is considered to be their very own Aliens: Colonial Marines. Hopefully, that’s not a pattern.
