Devs Think Xbox One X CPU Is A “Bottleneck”, Would Be Happy To See It Upgraded

The Xbox One X CPU saw a slight improvement over the base model and according to developers they would love to see the CPU upgraded as it is a bottleneck.

Xbox One X launched last year with upgraded hardware capable of running games at 4K. While the console saw significant improvements in GPU, RAM and VRAM but, the Xbox One X CPU only saw a slight improvement over the base model and according to developers they would love to see the CPU upgraded as it is a bottleneck.

Speaking with Gamingbolt, Fazan Studios’ Constantine talked about the Xbox One X and how its CPU is a bottleneck for realizing the full potential of current-gen video games.

According to the dev, the Xbox One X CPU being a “bottleneck” for modern games and the tech associated to games is no secret and would love to see the Xbox One X CPU upgraded to lift the bottleneck and realize the full potential of its hardware.

It’s no secret that the “bottleneck” of modern games and technologies associated with the games is the CPU,” he said. “So yes, I’d be happy to see more significant CPU upgrades on the Xbox One X

The Xbox One X features 6 TFLOPs of GPU computational power which is a significant jump over the base Xbox One which features 1.31 TFLOPs of GPU computational along with the improvements in memory as Xbox One X jumped to 12 GB of memory from 8 GB of the base model.

However, the Xbox One X CPU saw marginal improvements as the base model features 1.75 GHz 8-core custom AMD CPU while the Xbox One X features 2.3 GHz 8-core custom AMD CPU.

Other devs have also noted that CPU for the upgraded console is a bottleneck like Bungie who noted that Destiny 2 is locked at 30 FPS because of the CPU for Xbox One X.

Speaking of Microsoft, the company is already working on the next-Xbox which was announced at E3 2018. However, the announcement of the next Xbox is all we got as no specs and other details were revealed by Phil Spencer.

Not only that, the next-Xbox might feature GDDR6 along with a new type of DRAM. According to a job listing, Microsoft is considering a new type of DRAM and GDDR6 memory for the next Xbox iteration.

The listing suggests that Microsoft is looking for Senior Engineer for DRAM memory solution who will be working alongside the Xbox hardware development team.

Do you think Microsoft needs to upgrade the CPU for Xbox One X or should Microsoft just go with the current hardware? Let us know in the comments.
