Microsoft has decided to re-shape their strategies for many of their services. Yesterday, they dropped the price of Xbox One to $399 by un-bundling highly criticized Kinect and announced Free With Gold games for Xbox One.
In addition to these changes, Microsoft has decided to refund the players who don’t want a gold subscription for Xbox Live.
In response to a question that asked about the possibility of cancelling the Gold Membership, Xbox support answered:
Yes. Once the Xbox One and Xbox 360 system updates become available in June, Xbox Live Gold members who purchased a paid membership before that day can cancel and receive a pro-rata refund of any unused remaining days between the date of cancellation and the date their paid Gold membership ends.
Cancellation and pro-rata refund requests must be made by August 31, 2014 and require six to eight weeks for processing. Free or trial Gold memberships are not eligible for a refund. To request your pro-rata refund, after the system updates become available in June.
Many people wanted to cancel their Gold Subscription after Microsoft revealed that it will not be needed to access the streaming apps like Netflix, Hulu and HBO Go.
Very large number of people use the Xbox One for its streaming service apps and this new change from Microsoft will be welcomed by them. However, these changes will be implemented after the update that is going to be released next month.
