Let us take the example of Halo! The franchise is adored by millions of fans around the globe. However, the experiences of young audience – who probably got introduced to the franchise from Halo 4 – and the ones who played the original Halo when it released can never be the same.

Torn between finding a perfect balance between providing fans with something fresh and still sticking to the roots of the franchise, the developers find it nigh impossible.

One of the few game that I still adore for finding this balance is FromSoftware’s Dark Souls franchise. From the original Dark Souls to recently released Dark Souls III to Bloodborne, the franchise never fails to amaze – that and The Witcher franchise.
