What’s It Like to be a Templar in Assassin’s Creed Rogue, Ubisoft Explains

We know what it feels to be an assassin. Jumping out of a haystack to put a blade in our enemy’s heart or performing an air assassination, we have been there and killed many.

However, not many of us would’ve wondered how it feels to be templar while walking in the streets, doing day to day Templar chores with the fear of being assassinated at any time, from any direction.

Assassin’s Creed Rogue will make you feel the fear and during your time with the game, keep in mind that every single method we have been using over the years as an assassin to take down our enemy, can now be used against us.

The assassins will not let Shay get away that easy after turning his back on the brotherhood.

On Ubi Blog, Producer Ivan Balabanov stated that being a Templar isn’t just about what we will do but what the world around us will do as well.

“…it’s not just what you do, It’s also what the living world around you does. We gave ourselves the objective very early on to make sure that everything you were able to do as a player in previous games can now happen to you.”

Being a Templar will constantly keep you on your toes, you have to be very aware of your surroundings. Who said being an assassin hunter was easy?

“We want you to have the feeling that if you make one wrong step, you’re dead,”

Rogue will feature a new enemy type known as Stalkers. They will hunt Shay and can pop out of haystacks and can attack you from rooftops.

Something that can help out Shay is his ability to sense the presence of Stalkers. Our Templar Protagonist (or should I say antagonist) will hear whispers that will help him sense near by assassin threat.

“The whispers are a good feedback mechanism because they make you aware that you are being hunted,” Balabanov says. “They add this little edge of paranoia.”

As we know, Templars have no shortage of funds so that gives them access to some high-tech weapons and other items of that time. Shay will have some amazing weapons at his disposal and a ship that can take down Jackdaw in a heartbeat.

In video footages, you must have noticed Shay using an Air Rifle while hunting down his former brothers. According to Balabanov, Templar’s way is more manipulative. They manipulate events to achieve their goals.

That is why developers chose Air Rifle as “Shay’s weapon of choice.”

“This is why we specifically chose the air rifle as Shay’s weapon of choice,” Balabanov notes. “It could very easily have been a big, powerful firearm, but we decided to go for something silent and stealthy – something that allows you to manipulate your way through the game, rather than just barrel through it, guns-blazing.”
