Unravel 2 Is Not Coming To Nintendo Switch And Here’s Why

E3 2018 was amazing, it included so many big titles like The Last Of Us, Cyberpunk 2077 and some great indie titles which included the most famous Unravel 2.

Unravel 2 is coming as a sequel to the first game for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Only Nintendo remains and people have been requesting the developers a lot to release a Nintendo Switch version of the game.

But there are no plans yet for Unravel on Nintendo Switch but the director has revealed they are not giving up on it yet in a Tweet.

Director of the game, Michael Gill recently in an interview with GamesIndustry.biz revealed that if they worked on the game for Nintendo Switch, it would have delayed the game by a half year or more.

Michael Gill said:

Even those controllers on the side are the same colours as the Yarnies – it’s incredible. It’s a machine made for Unravel Two. But we run at 60 frames per second, that’s really important for us and we want to keep that framerate. To keep that on Switch, and to keep the graphical quality [would have been difficult].

Gill wants to maintain that 60 fps on all of its version of the game which will be hard to do on the Nintendo Switch.

We’re also using a heavily extended version of [Sony’s] PhyreEngine, and we had to port it to Xbox One ourselves. It doesn’t have support for Switch yet, so we would have to do that port and the engine work ourselves, and we’re a really small team. We only have two engine programmers across the whole team, and they mostly work on updates for the game so we just didn’t have time.

We really wanted to be able to release this week, but if we had to do a Switch port it would have taken another half a year or so.

Another problem for Unravel 2 is the Sony’s PhyreEngine engine which is not supported on other consoles. It’s clear that it is not possible yet for the developers but it’s great to know that the developers want the game to be on Switch.
