Uncharted vs Tomb Raider: “It’s Not a Huge War,” Says Crystal Dynamics

Every since Uncharted came to be we have seen comparisons being made with Tomb Raider. In fact, some call it a mix of Indiana Jones and Tomb Raider franchise. Uncharted vs Tomb Raider has been the topic of hot debate between fans of both IPs.

However, it isn’t often we see developers sharing their views about the whole “Uncharted vs Tomb Raider” debate. But thankfully, Tomb Raider developer Crystal Dynamics recently commented on the rivalry and stated that “it is not a huge war,” even though fans may think otherwise.

We love action adventure games, right? Uncharted is a fantastic series, and they do a lot of things very well. I think there’s room for multiple franchises in the genre. I think the “rivalry” is just kind of silly.

There is no rivalry between us. We compete with ourselves to try to improve upon our own games and so on. We also feel that we’re very different games. Especially since we really settled on survival as our key lens that we took traversal and combat and all these things through. We just feel like we’re very different games just in the same space.

Crystal Dynamics like to focus on its own game and try to make the best possible experience for the community. With Rise of the Tomb Raider, the studio considered it achieved its goal. There will be more Tomb Raider games in the future, however, the chapter of Nathan Drake has come to an end.

Naughty Dog will not be making more Uncharted games. At least not with Nathan Drake at the helm.  The Last of Us 2 is expected to be the next blockbuster to come out of ND.
