Today, we list down top 10 best story driven games of the decade. Did your favorite game made to the list? Let's find out.

What is the recipe to create a memorable gaming experience? To me, a decent story has always been the primary motivation to buy a game. Multiplayer is all the rage right now but story driven games will always be at the helm of it all.

In the last ten years, we have seen some incredible video games released across many different platforms. They emotionally jolted us and are forever embedded in our minds.

Today, we will be listing down Top 10 of the best story driven games of the decade.

Top 10 Best Story Driven Games

10 – God of War 2

What can be said about God of War 2 that hasn’t been said already? Kratos, who is a brutally violent Greek soldier, tortured by the memories of his past, is now the new God of war. He is very angry and vengeful god, ready to kill at a moment’s notice.

God of War lore overall is very intriguing but easy to get into. The game manages to make you feel like a God, an angry one at that.

9 – Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriot

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots

Hideo Kojima’s brainchild, Metal Gear Solid 4, was technically the end of the series. It wrapped things up nicely while making sure new fans are given a proper explanation of relevant events of the past.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is based on political fiction, espionage. and sci-fi. Be sure to try it out if you own a PlayStation 3.

8 – Gears of War

Gears of War

The very first Gears of War is what started it all and helped push this franchise among the biggest IPs of all time. The latest installment, Gears of War 4, is releasing this year but I definitely recommend newcomers to check out Marcus Fenix and party in Gears of War.

Gears of War was remastered for Xbox One and PC so you have the option to ditch XB360 and grab a copy for Xbox One with revamped visuals.

7 – Uncharted 2

uncharted 2

Uncharted began as a series that was highly underestimated. Not much was expected from this Indiana Jones/Tomb Raider knock-off. However, it later came to be one of the hottest properties in the video game industry today.

The first game was decent enough to deserve a sequel but what came next was something extraordinary. Uncharted 2 is one of the best story driven games of our time.

6 – The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings

The Witcher 2

For many, The Witcher will go down in history as the best RPG. The Witcher 3 overshadowed the rest of the series but The Witcher 2 remains a killer app still.

Geralt’s journey through The Witcher 2 was exhilarating, action-packed, and full of twists and turns.

5 – Final Fantasy VII

Final Fantasy VII Remake

Deep characters, detailed back stories and excellent gameplay, this is Final Fantasy VII. We are waiting for the 15th installment in the series but by far Final Fantasy VII is the best of the lot.

Keep a tissue box around, emotional cutscenes and intense flashbacks may leave you a little emotional. It is impossible to play the game without an emotional attachment to the characters.

4 – Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End

Uncharted 4 graphics comparison

Well, this is the second Uncharted game to be a part of our list. Uncharted 4 was the epic conclusion to the long-running saga.

Even though the game went through many changes over the course of its development, it turned out to be the perfect end to Nathan Drake’s story. If you are a fan who appreciates great story-telling, Uncharted 4 is the game for you.

3 – Life is Strange

life is strange episode 1

Developer Dontnod Entertainment’s Life Is Strange is the other episodic adventure that nailed it right on the head. Venturing into territories not many games like to explore such as bullying, rape, depression, suicide, and murder, Life is Strange is a winner in every aspect.

The story is told through the eyes of a young high school photographer, Maxine Caulfield. It is pretty much a high school drama but with a very interesting twist.

2 – The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

The Witcher 3 (42)

CD Projekt RED created a masterpiece that won’t soon be forgotten. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is one of the best story driven games of this generation.

From the base game to its final expansion, Blood and Wine, there was never a dull moment. Geralt’s epic adventure is not something you want to miss out on.

1 – The Last of Us

Naughty Dog should definitely change its name to Naughty God! The Last of Us is probably the most critically acclaimed game in the past decade. The Last of Us  won numerous awards and millions of copies sold across the globe.

The Last of Us follows the story of Joel and Ellie during a zombie apocalypse. Joel and Ellie’s emotional journey to reach a facility that is their final hope will leave you in tears.
