Bungie, while still knee-deep in the continuous addressing of piling concerns for the sequel, is said to be already working on Destiny 3.
This is according to Jason Schreier, lead news editor for Kotaku, to whom reliable sources recently confirmed another installment in the science-fiction franchise to be in development.
It goes without saying that anything related to Destiny 3 should be taken as mere rumors at this point. However, it is hard to disregard the fact that Schreier has been making accurate claims with the help of the same anonymous sources since the first installment released back in 2014.
Is this rush normal?
It is not uncommon for developers to immediately take on another project once all of the core work for the primary has been completed. CD Projekt RED, for example, was working on Cyberpunk 2077 in minimum capacity while The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was awaiting its expansion packs. It all comes down to how much resources Bungie has allocated for Destiny 3.
So there is nothing to worry about then?
Unfortunately, that is not the case. Destiny 2 was supposed to be the polished and complete sequel that the original failed to be in many areas. It was only last week when Bungie revealed its roadmap for the year, full of improvements and features that should have been there from beginning.
Remember how the original installment was abandoned at the end to resurface as a reboot in the form of Destiny 2? There is always the chance of history repeating itself.
Why even work on Destiny 3?
Bungie has signed a ten-year deal with Activision that dictates a major release every three years or so. Based on that, there was bound to be a third installment at the very least. Destiny 3 might not release that soon, but it will happen around 2020.
