The Witcher 4 Could Find Ciri As A Protagonist

Would you like to see Ciri as the protagonist for The Witcher 4? One of the franchise's writers hint to that being a posibility for the future.

CD Projekt RED might be caught up with the development of Cyberpunk 2077, that doesn’t mean that The Witcher franchise is over. Now that their upcoming title is close to its release, it’s time for the studio to make up plans for the future. One of the writers for their games claims that The Witcher 4 could have Ciri as a protagonist, shedding some light on her dark side.

The Witcher 3 was a monumental release for CDPR, making it one of the best games to ever release. Although the story followed Geralt of Rivia in his adventures, Ciri is the backbone of its plot in a mysterious way. In an interview with PC Gamer for issue 338, writer Jakub Szamalek claims that Ciri didn’t get the attention she deserved in Wild Hunt. He says:

“There wasn’t really space for unpacking this complex episode in the Wild Hunt, and it’s a shame. In this moment of life, Ciri gave in to her darker side, followed her worst instincts. Showing this transition, and the remorse which followed, would have made a great story.”

He references Ciri’s rose tattoo to prove his point on this and continues by saying that they might revisit this in the future. What is Ciri’s rose tattoo though and why is it so important?

Back in the day when Ciri was a captive, she and a girl called Mistle had a deep relationship and that’s something the original books focus a lot on. After deciding to go her own way, Ciri gets the same tattoo as Mistle has. A rose tattoo on her inner thigh. This was a dark era for Ciri as she has been through a lot and trying to uncover the extent of her powers.

Back to the games now, the original Geral trilogy is over. After the launch of The Witcher TV series on Netflix, we’ll have a good view on Geralt’s past and how Ciri started her journey. This doesn’t stop CD Projekt RED from taking the franchise to another level, giving her her own standalone game. We’ll go as far as to say that playing as Ciri in The Witcher 3 is one of its many traits. With that being said, it would be a great turnaround to see her become a protagonist for The Witcher 4.

Beyond possibilities and opportunities though, CD Project does have their assets ready for such a project. We have Ciri’s model, her original blink and teleport powers as well as a blade-dance tactic of her own. This sets up the ground for a great comeback to the franchise, one that players will enjoy even more than bringing Geralt back.

For what it’s worth, The Witcher 4 is a distant dream for us right now. CD Projekt RED is focused on Cyberpunk 2077 for the time being. The game releases on April 16th, 2020 after 10 years of waiting. It will be available on PC, Xbox One and Playstation 4.
