The Rationale behind Fortnite’s Lack of Weapons Repair System

Any game created by the legendary studio Epic Games is worth looking at, so it was no surprise when they revealed that Fortnite had sold over 500000 pre-order copies.

The game hit early access on July 25th and people are still figuring out the intricacies of the game. This guide explores the option of repairing weapons in the game and looks at the possible reasons the developers may have skipped over a feature which seems so integral to a survival game.

Repairing Weapons in Fortnite

A lot of stats in Fortnite need to be monitored, and one of the most important ones is the little thin bar on the side of your weapons. That bar represents the condition of your weapons. Using the weapon will cause wear and tear which will eventually cause the bar to deplete until it hits zero.

This concept is by no means new, in fact, it is standard fare for most survival sandbox games like Rust and Minecraft. However what is strange about this is that as of right now there is no option to repair your weapon. Once the bar hits zero, it’s gone.

So what do you do once your weapon breaks? Well, there isn’t much you can do except find a schematic of the weapon and try to craft it again. This seems like an avenue the developers overlooked in the game, but keep in mind that the game is still in early access and there might still be a repair system implemented into the game before the full release.

There might be another reason Epic Games decided not to include a repair system for weapons in Fortnite. Using the schematic system means that newer players cannot get higher level weapons from a more experienced friend without putting in any of the efforts.

The weapon will eventually break and without the required schematic, the player will not be able to craft it again. A new player will need to progress through multiple missions if he or she wants to have powerful weapons in the game.

The major issue that the game’s current weapons module causes is that when drops occur, the player cannot hold onto the weapon very long. This may well end up being a gameplay element as players will need to manage their weapons efficiently to get the most use out of them.
