Tekken 7 was recently confirmed for PC and Xbox One during Microsoft E3 2016 media briefing – previously it was only confirmed for Playstation 4.
While we already know quite a lot about the game – except how Akuma fits into the Tekken universe – we now have a bunch of new information straight from Producer Katsuhiro Harada and Designer Michael Murray.
Speaking of how the game’s combat mechanics changed when compared to TTT2 and Tekken 6 that included a bound attack to extend combos, Murray stated that there is a new attack to extend combos and is generally referred to as ‘Tailspin’.
According to Murray, each character in the game has a few of these new attacks that carry an enemy character to a farther distance than a bound move. He also confirmed that wall mechanics have also been changed to prevent chaining of extremely long combos.
Personally, I think that this is a good decision and we are getting back to fighting mechanics as seen in Tekken 5g Dark Resurrection with a new addition of Rage Arts.
Speaking of Tekken 7: Fated Retribution Rage Arts, Harada stated that these special moves deal damage depending upon the remaining life of the opposing character – more damage when the HP is low and less damage when the HP is more. These did not do a lot of damage in the Arcade version of the game.
Coming to crafting system in the game and microtransactions, here is what Harada said:
We can’t say anything concrete for consoles, but we could say we aren’t going to make you pay for something in the game. If it’s something not in the game like a Karin costume from Street Fighter V which wasn’t originally intended and everyone wants us to make it. If we end up making it later, we would have to pay Capcom royalties and in that instance it would be DLC or something. Monetization just to unlock something in the game isn’t something we’re thinking about.
Tekken 7 is scheduled to release sometime in early 2017 for PC, Xbox One, and Playstation 4.
