Console gamers are more interested in investing in VR technology than PC users. According to a recent survey, console gamers are showing more interested in Virtual Reality compared to their PC counterparts.
63% of console players showed interest in VR and that number rose to 72% when the survey was limited to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Meanwhile, only 51% of PC gamers are interested in VR.
The survey asked the following question:
New ‘virtual reality’ technology will soon be available, allowing you to experience more immersive entertainment at home. Wearing a special headset linked to devices such as computers or games consoles, you will be able to move around within virtual three dimensional environments and see and hear as if you were actually there. This could include playing video games, as well as interacting with other content (such as films or simulated environments). Assuming the price was acceptable to you, how interested would you be in having this type of ‘virtual reality’ technology at home
So basically console gamers are more into VR than PC and you may think price may have a hand in this as the tech is much cheaper on consoles but as you can see in the question above, they assumed the price was acceptable across the board before answering.
Microsoft isn’t planning a VR device so the whole console market is ripe for the taking. Sony will have it all to itself when it releases PlayStation VR is October. The device will be exclusive to PlayStation 4 and will cost $399. Nearly half the price of Oculus Rift and exactly half the Price of HTC VIVE.
PlayStation VR is recommended to be used alongside some non-essential peripherals like PlayStation Move. However, you will most definitely need a PlayStation Camera.
Sony introduced a bundle including all of the above mentioned items in a single $499 package.
