Star Wars Battlefront Is A Reboot and Not a Continuation, Explains DICE

Star Wars Battlefront has received mixed reactions from the fans of this iconic franchise, there has been a debate over whether or not this is the Star Wars game fans deserve after so many years or not?

While that argument goes on, DICE explained in the latest issue of the Official PlayStation Magazine how Star Wars Battlefront should be seen as a reboot.

Speaking to the magazine, DICE’s General Manager Patrick Bach said they choose not to build upon the foundation provided by previous games, instead they went for something completely new.

In his own words:

I think what we did was instead of trying to build upon the old games, we went back and said let’s start over. Let’s analyse the good and the bad, like we did with old games, but it’s more about going back to the core idea that Battlefront stands for, and then building on that. Because otherwise you will create a version of somebody else’s game, and that’s not what we do!

Bach went on to say that even though Battlefront is a Star Wars game, the team wanted the title to be recognised as a DICE game. He said they build their own games, games that “breath DICE.”

We build our own games, we build something that breathes ‘DICE’. We wanted to take a fresh stance on the concept of Battlefront, rather than saying ‘let’s take that feature and call it the same thing’, or ‘let’s remove that feature’. It will just get messy. So you have to see it as a reboot.

It seems that as long as we keep comparing it to previous games, we won’t be able to enjoy the experience it has to offer. Fair enough?

Star Wars Battlefront is headed to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC in November.
