Sony Is Not Profiting From Mercy Charity Skin According To Latest Report

Did you remember the claims that Sony is profiting from the new Mercy Charity Skin available for a limited time on Overwatch? Blizzard brought the skin to the game after partnering with the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and since then fans were wondering about its price tag on PlayStation 4. Sony is now disclaiming the rumor, reporting that they’re not making any profit from sales of the Mercy Charity Skin.

In case you haven’t caught up with the news, Blizzard has brought a new Mercy Charity Skin to Overwatch priced at $15. 100% of proceeds will go toward the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, with a minimum of $250,000 USD guaranteed to go toward the cause.

However, fans soon found out that In the PlayStation Store, the skin is priced at £12.99, however, only £10.12 of that will be given to Blizzard Entertainment. This understandably raised suspicion to Sony’s intends.

Sony was contacted by Eurogamer about the matter and the rep’s answer was the following:

“We are not making any profit from sales of Overwatch Pink Mercy Skin.”

While we don’t expect the Sony rep to be lying about the Mercy Charity Skin story, where does the remaining £2.87 go? It could actually be a VAT pricing since the Xbox One version of the skin costs £12.79 incl. VAT, while the PC edition mentions ‘Any applicable VAT included. However, there’s no such term stated on the PlayStation Mercy Charity Skin listing. Should Sony consider being clearer about their sales terms?

For what it’s worth you can do a good deed and buy the Mercy Charity Skin and help out the cause. Even if you are not a “Mercy main” such a skin would be a great addition to your Overwatch skin collection. Along with the skin, daily charity streams by community members will be held with their donations also being given to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
