The executive producer of Sonic the Hedgehog has finally replied to the movie’s delay after a major backlash by fans.
Film producer Tim Miller believes that the Sonic redesign will please the fans. This redesign is the result of fan backlash which forced Jeff Fowler, the director of Sonic the Hedgehog movie to have another look at the iconic character’s design.
As a result, Sonic the Hedgehog movie got delayed from November 2019 until Valentine’s Day 2020 but according to executive producer Tim Miller, it’s worth the delay.
Miller recently sat down with Variety to discuss the thought process following the poor reception of the movie trailer. Here’s what Miller said:
Look, I was with fans and so was Jeff. When the s–t hit the fan, I went over there and said, ‘The most important thing to do, man, is say, ‘I f–ked up.’ He’d already sent a tweet out an hour before I got there. He’s a good man. It was exactly the right way to handle that. The fans have a voice in this too. There’s a right way to listen.
As for the new Sonic the Hedgehog design, Miller has seen it and he thinks that fans will be very pleased.
Movie director Fowler announced in April that design changes are being made. “Thank you for the support. And the criticism. The message is loud and clear,” Fowler said on Twitter.
Fans were particularly upset with about Sonic’s teeth that were shown in the trailer. That’s because Sonic was given human-like teeth which seemed unrealistic to most fans. In addition to this, Sonic also had human-like legs in the trailer instead of thin legs as seen in his original cartoon.
It appears that both of the aforementioned things about Sonic will be altered in his new design for Sonic the Hedgehog movie. Fans are finally happy to hear that the film directors are making changes to hedgehog design.
In order to see the new redesign with our own eyes, we will have to wait. We can expect the creators of the movie to show the new Sonic the Hedgehog in the coming months.
Sonic the Hedgehog cast includes Jim Carrey, who is playing the role of villain and comedian Ben Schwartz, who is the voice of iconic Sonic character.
Sonic the Hedgehog movie will be distributed by Paramount Pictures on February 14, 2020, in the United States and Japan.
