Sea of Thieves Guide – How to Sail, Your First Voyage, Companies (Beginners Tips and Tricks)

This Sea of Thieves Guide will help you get acquainted with all of the game’s features. It is very important to understand the core mechanics of the game; otherwise, you will be lost and won’t be able to figure out how to progress within the game. No matter where you are running into problems, this guide will ensure that you can easily understand how Sea of Thieves works and move on to the more advanced stuff.

Getting Started – Sea of Thieves Guide

Of course, the first thing that you need to do is to raise the anchor. To do this, go to the front of the ship and move behind the first set of the sails. Then raise the anchor by interacting with it. You can also lower the anchor in the same way.

Remember that the more crew members helping you raise the anchor, the faster it will rise. In case you are trying to get away, remember to have as many members manning the anchor as you possibly can. Lowering the Anchor will be easier as it requires less force.

The sails are another thing that you need to figure out. You will see ropes attached to its side. You can either Set Sail Length or the Angle. Set the Sail Length to lower them. All you need to do is to hold down on the analogue stick and unfurl them. Move the analogue stick in the opposite direction to raise them back up.

How to Sail your Ship

Once you are on your way, you will need to guide your ship. There are quite a few intricacies that will impact your sailing such as the angle of your sails. The angle will determine the speed at which your ship moves.

Try to catch the wind with your sails as it will help you quite a lot with speed. If you manage to get all three of your sails aligned with the wind, then you will notice the massive change in speed immediately.

Your First Voyage

Now you need to decide on your first voyage. When you find yourself in a tavern, you can collect items from the barrels and then head on to the Hoarder Shopkeeper. Select the Stash of Captain Bones; it will be free since it is a Starter Voyage.

This voyage will unlock other voyages. To start the voyage, go to your ship and set sail. The ship will be near the shoreline near the merchant’s tents.

Propose a voyage at the lower deck and select The Stash of Captain Bones. Vote for the voyage to start the quest and gain the map. You will have the location which you will find on your large table map. After this, set up the sail in the way we told you and then you are off.

At the end of your quest, you will gain a chest. Take the chest to your boat and head on to the closest outpost. There you can sell the chest and get some gold in return. This gold will allow you to purchase other voyages among other stuff. Beware of other ships though, some will be hostile and try to attack you.

The full release of the game has multiple trading companies who can give you multiple different quests. We still wait to see how they will interact with one another, but we do know how you can level up your own Trading Companies.

Simply put, you can level up your Trading Companies by completing their quests. You can get a trading company leveled up to five by completing two quests. Your progress can be slowed down quite a lot by other players as they can steal your loot if you fail to cash it in at the outpost.

This means that you need to be extra careful around ships when approaching the port as other ships will have cashed in their loot and will try to steal yours away.

One last thing to remember is that you can protect your loot by hiding it in certain places. You can carry chests all the way up to the crow’s nest or turn off certain lanterns to ensure that your loot stays safe even if you are raided.

Essentially, just do as many quests as you can and be extremely careful with your loot to ensure that you level up fast.
