Samsung is one of the leading companies in advanced memory technology and the company has announced that it has started manufacturing the 10 mn-Class 32 GB DDR4 SoDIMMs for gaming laptops.
According to Samsung, it is “creating the industry’s first 32-gigabyte DDR4 memory,” in the SoDIMMs form factor.
Not only that, Samsung has doubled the capacity which will result in more efficient processing. According to Sewon Chun, senior vice president of memory marketing:
Samsung’s 32GB DDR4 DRAM modules will deliver gaming experiences on laptops more powerful and immersive than ever before.
The company went on to compare the 10 mn-Class 32 GB DDR4 SoDIMMs with its 16GB SoDIMMs based on 20nm-class 8-gigabit DDR4, which rolled out in 2014.
According to the company, 10 mn-Class 32 GB DDR4 SoDIMMs are 11% fast compared to 16GB SoDIMMs and is 39% more energy efficient in overall desktop operations.
These new 10 mn-Class 32 GB DDR4 SoDIMMs are based on 16-gigabit DDR4 DRAM chips to make a double-sided RAM module with each side having eight chips.
Samsung claims that a 64 GB gaming laptop equipped with two of the 10 mn-Class 32 GB DDR4 SoDIMMs consumes less than 4.6W in active mode and less than 1.4W when idle.
This reduces power usage by approximately 39 percent and over 25 percent, respectively, compared to today’s leading gaming-oriented laptops, which are equipped with 16GB modules.
These SoDIMMs for gaming laptops will be available in speed ratings at up to 2,666Mbps which is significantly higher compared to 2,400Mbps of the previous ones.
