Rocket League is getting review bombed by fans on Steam after it was announced that Epic Games has bought Psyonix. A little preemptive, right?
The ability to post reviews on a game is the most powerful weapon the gaming community has. Whenever gamers are met by disappointing decisions made by the higher-ups of their favorite games, gamers band together, united under one community, and review bomb that game to hell.
Just yesterday, after it was announced that Epic Games has acquired Psyonix, the studio behind Rocket League, the gaming community and the massive player-base started review bombing Rocket League on Steam.
There could be many reasons for this. Primarily however, there’s only one, and that’s Epic Games. Epic Games has been acquiring games for almost a year now. The games are acquired and then made exclusives for their Epic Game Store. Of course, games are naturally disappointed by this because it puts them in a very difficult situation. Steam has way more features than Epic Games.
Furthermore, existing Steam players face a lot of problems when suddenly they are required to switch over to a different game launcher, a one that has far limited features. Steam has 3rd party keys, Account Sharing, Achievements, Big/Picture TV mode, broadcasting, Cloud Saves, Forums, Gifting, Groups and many more!
Just quite recently, the gaming community review bombed the Borderlands franchise on Steam when it was announced 2K games will release Borderlands 3 PC exclusively on the Epic Games Store only for the first six months.
Even though Rocket League’s massive 50+ Million player base all love and cherish the rocket-powered vehicular soccer gameplay it offers, the community is gathering and negatively review bombing the game, demanding that the companies making these discussions listen to the consumers.
Where half of the gaming community seems to be expressing their disappointment in the form of negative comments, on the other side, we also have those who are buying Rocket League on Steam before it goes away.
Epic Games has said that Rocket League will continue to be available for purchase on Steam; thereafter it will continue to be supported on Steam for all existing purchasers.” This means players who have Rocket League on Steam can continue to play the game through Steam and get the same features they previously had. Players are buying and storing Rocket League in their libraries as last hope.
Epic Games has also said, “We are continuing to sell Rocket League on Steam, and have not announced plans to stop selling the game there.”
It is likely Rocket League will go over to the Epic Games Store later in 2019 until then, the outrage will continue unless the companies behind these decisions finally listen to the community.
