Risk of Rain 2 came out of nowhere and is now available through Steam Early Access. However, players are experiencing errors and issues while playing Risk of Rain 2 like a crash on startup, low FPS and more.
Here I have compiled a list of errors and issues that players are experiencing along with their fixes and workarounds so that you can play the game without any problem.
Risk Of Rain 2 Black Screen, Stuttering Fix
Given that Risk of Rain 2 is an early access game, errors and performance issues are bound to pop up and making it difficult for players to play the game.
The following are the list of Risk of Rain 2 errors and issues that players are experiencing along with their possible fixes and workarounds.
Character Stuck In One Direction Fix
Players are reporting that their characters are just stuck looking in one direction i.e facing to the ground which created problems with controls. This issue probably popping up for those who also use controllers.
Make sure the controller is detached from the PC and if that doesn’t fix the issue then try and delete the controller driver which should resolve the issue for you.
Crash On Startup, Game Not Launching Fix
Some players are reporting that they are unable to play the game as the game crashes as soon it starts or doesn’t even launches. Here are a few things you can do to fix this issue.
Make sure you are not using outdated GPU drivers as latest drivers have game-specific optimizations. Reportedly, Nvidia Driver 418.56 fixes the crash issue.
For those whose game crashes on startup, there is a possibility that your anti-virus software or Windows Defender is detecting the game’s exe file as a trojan.
You either need to disable your anti-virus or make an exception for the game’s exe file in your anti-virus software. Also, try disabling the Steam overlay which also causes the game to crash on startup.
Black Screen Fix
The black screen is a common issue in PC games. Players are reporting when they start the game all they get is a black screen while the audio is playing in the background.
To fix this problem, start the game and when the black screen appears, press “Alt + Enter”. This will put the game into Windowed mode and the game will start to display. Now go to video settings and change the game’s resolution to your monitor’s native resolution and you will be able to play the game in fullscreen.
Crash Fix
Given that Risk of Rain 2 is currently an early access game, the game will crash every now an then. However, for some players, the game is crashing constantly.
One reason for the game’s crash could be your overclocked GPU. If you have overclocked your GPU then revert it back to its default clock speeds.
If you own a factory overclocked GPU then use MSI Afterburner to reduce the clock speeds and the issue should resolve.
Also, third-party monitoring software like MSI Afterburner also causes the game to crash. Disable any third-party software you are using and the issue should resolve.
Stuttering, Low FPS Fix
With so many PC configurations out there, performance issue are bound to pop up. Also, factor in the fact the Risk of Rain 2 is an early access game meaning the game’s optimization isn’t done yet and some players are reporting low FPS and stuttering and here are a few things you can do to eliminate stuttering.
Make sure you are using the latest GPU drivers and there is no background process using too much of your HDD or CPU.
For those who own an Nvidia GPU, open Nvidia Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings > Program Settings. Select the game from the drop-down list and set “Power Management Mode” to “Prefer Maximum Performance” and set “Texture Filtering- Quality” to “High Performance”. This should get rid of the stuttering and will possibly boost FPS.
