Red Dead Redemption 2 Box Art Confirms 2 Discs, Biggest Game This Gen

Red Dead Redemption 2 is releasing on 2 discs as confirmed by its Japanese box art. The game’s file size is over 100GB which cannot be contained by one BD Disc.

There were a number of rumors over the past few weeks and many speculations about a two-disc release. Red Dead Redemption 2 is the first PS4 and (probably) Xbox One game this generation release on two discs, making it the biggest game in terms of its file size at launch. The file size is expected to increase once more content rolls out. The file size on Xbox One is less than PS4 so it is unclear if we’ll need two discs on Xbox One.

Rockstar plans to fully support the game with post-release content. Not only for the base game but for Red Dead Online as well. For the base game, there are rumors of a single player DLC but it is unlikely to happen. Rockstar made official plans for GTA V single player DLC but it never happened due to the overwhelming success of GTA Online. Rockstar routed its resources to support GTA Online with post-release content.

Meanwhile, the single-player DLC plans just disappeared.

Red Dead Redemption 2 also features an online mode, Red Dead Online. It is expected to top GTA Online in terms of popularity and revenue so it is natural for Rockstar to support Red Dead Online rather than the base game post-release.

But Red Dead Online won’t be available at launch, Rockstar confirmed. This means that the overwhelming file size is just for the base single player game. Add Red Dead Online on top of that we may touch 200GB by the time Red Dead Online reaches the end of its life-cycle.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is releasing on PS4, Xbox One, Xbox One X, and PS4 Pro on October 26. Rumors of a PC version are still around but nothing official at the moment.
