Ubisoft’s Rainbow Six Siege developers have explained why there will never be a Battle Royale mode in the game. Battle Royale is all the rage right now thanks to Fortnite, PUBG, and now the latest Battle Royale game, Apex Legends.
Rainbow Six Siege Creative Director Xavier Marquis stated that they are not working on any battle royale mode, in fact, they are not even considering it at this point. He explained that this genre is interesting but it is not for Siege.
No, I am not interested at all in a battle royale. The genre is doing a nice job but it’s not Siege. The equation of Siege comes from reality, like real CQB operations; it’s always a group trained to defend a specific place and an intervening group trained to intimidate and defeat the threat. This is the equation of Siege. I think the battle royale genre is too much of a stretch and I’m not sure it will be a plus for the game. So, we’ll try different things but no.
Director Leroy Athanassoff has the same feeling about the battle royale mode in Rainbow Six, saying that they are not interested in working on a Battle Royale mode for Rainbow Six Siege.
Respawn Entertainment released Apex Legends which took the Battle Royale genre by storm. Fortnite’s dominance is challenged thanks to over 2 million concurrent players and a total of 25 million user base of Apex Legends. In a natural to think a publisher like Ubisoft may follow suit.
Such a big hit begs the question, how much life is this genre going to have? It seems battle royale games won’t end any time soon thanks to Apex Legends and Call of Duty Blackout. Future Call of Duty games are also expected to have battle royale mode.
