PUBG Will Not Increase in Price After Leaving Early Access

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) entered early access on Steam over five months ago and is hoping to officially launch later this year. When it does, the popular online battle royale experience will stick to its current price.

In most cases, developers refrain from promoting their products at a full retail price tag while inside the early access program. It is only when the full version launches that the price increases as well. In a way, players are asked to place their trust with the developer by benefiting from making an early purchase.

Speaking with Games Industry last month, creator Brendan “PlayerUnknown” Greene stated that there are no current plans to increase the price in the near future. Regardless of how popular the game gets, PUBG will remain at its current $30 price when it leaves early access. That being said, he did caution that pricing is always subject to change. However, players don’t have to worry about it for the time being.

Having sold more than 10 million copies since late March, the developer exclaimed that sales are not showing any signs of slowing down. As far as Bluehole Studio is concerned, there is still a lot of room for growth. The developer hopes to see PUBG match the 100 million active users of League of Legends some day down the line.

Elsewhere in the interview, Greene revealed that Microsoft has been sharing its resources with the South Korean studio for the development of the Xbox One version. It is helping out with the creation of an anti-cheat system as well as providing access to several technologies such as the remarkable water used by Rare in Sea of Thieves.

A new update is scheduled to arrive next week that will add a new weapon, foggy weather conditions, and leaders for the first-person perspective (FPP) mode.
