PS4 CUH-1200 Model Finally Launched in the West, Less Noise and Power Consumption

The new console version, called PS4 CUH-1200, has started rolling out in the West, and the first units have just appeared at Game in the UK.

Remember the lighter and more economical PS4 revision that Sony released in Japan last month? Well, that new console version, called PS4 CUH-1200, has started rolling out in the West, and the first units have just appeared at Game in the UK and at Mediamarkt in the Netherlands.

At Game, the PS4 revised model was available for £349.99 with The Last of Us: Remastered and God of War III: Remastere. The OCD Guy bought the new console and has since expressed his first impression of it.

According to him, the first CUH-1200 unit he brought home was a bit noisier than he expected, so he went back to the store and exchanged it for a new one.

He found the new model to be much quieter at 45dB as compared to the 49dB of Xbox One and 57dB of the previous CUH-1100.

He also talked in detail about the new mechanical buttons and LED light on the console:

Two things I’ve picked up on though which are minor but thought I’d mention them is firstly the mechanical power and eject buttons feel cheap, they are a bit loose feeling and not as nice as the touch sensitive ones.

If anyone’s got a Wii u controller, you know how the buttons feel on that? That’s how they feel on the PS4. The other thing which isn’t an issue, and I couldn’t care less, but just thought I’d mention is the light in the PS4 (white when running) is much shorter, it doesn’t look as good as the original, but no big deal.

As for the power consumption, earlier tests showed that the rated power consumption of the new PS4 is down by 8% from 250W to 230W. Standby power consumption while downloading is also down to just 58W now, as it’s being performed by the APU as usual instead of the secondary processor.

If you’re interested in purchasing the new PS4 version, note that the model number is CUH-1216 in Europe and CUH-1215 in North America, which you’ll find displayed at the bottom of the box.
