PS2 Emulation on PS4: Games Will Have to be Repurchased

Sony has confirmed that you will have to purchase PS2 emulation titles on PS4; price list for first eight titles shared.

It had been in the air for some time now, and we already knew that Sony Computer Entertainment would announce the PS2 emulation feature for PS4 one of these days. That is exactly what they did, but it came with another speculation of our coming true, and we certainly didn’t want that.

Sony is going to charge you for all the classics that make it to your PS4 through the feature!

Shuhei Yoshida, the head of Sony Worldwide Studios recently confirmed this while announcing the first batch of games that is going to go live today through the PS2 emulation feature. Here’s what he said:

To celebrate our PS2 heritage, I’m excited to announce that starting tomorrow, you will be able to purchase and play PS2 games on your PS4 via PlayStation Store in the Americas and Europe. We are getting things started with a bang by launching with eight fan favorites tomorrow.

In total, there are eight games that will go live today with additional features like 1080p re-rendering, Remote Play, Live Broadcast, Share Play, Activity Feeds, and Second Screen.

  • Grand Theft Auto III — $14.99
  • Grand Theft Auto: Vice City — $14.99
  • Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas — $14.99
  • Rogue Galaxy — $14.99
  • The Mark of Kri — $14.99
  • Twisted Metal: Black — $9.99
  • War of the Monsters — $9.99

People who attend the PlayStation Experience will also be able to try out most of these games alongside other titles like Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, PaRappa the Rapper 2 and The King of Fighters 2000. These last two games are going to be released with PS2 emulation feature on PS4 soon.
