Pokemon X and Y Features In-Battle “Mega Evolution”

A new announcement made by developer Game Freak confirms the addition of a new feature called “Mega Evolution” in Pokemon X and Y.

Mega Evolution allows your Pokemons to evolve during a battle, adding stats and even changing types in some cases. Currently Game Freak has not explained as to what exactly triggers the evolution. The process requires certain criteria to be met and once a battle is over, the Pokemon will revert back to its original state.

The developer did though confirm that not all Pokemons will be able to make use of this feature. Only a few will be able to Mega Evolve, including Mewtwo, Lucario and Blaziken.

Further details will be handed out later as we approach the game’s release. Here are some more announcemnets that Game Freak did alongside the major addition of “Mega Evolution”.

  • Electric/Fairy-type Pokemon Dedenne joins the PokeDex, which almost look like a mixture of the original, fatter Pikachu from Pokemon Red, Raichu and an old fashioned television w/ antennae. Dedenne uses the new Cheek Pouch, which adds HP regen when he eats a berry in battle. He also utilizes Nuzzle, which does damage while paralyzing the opponent.
  • Bunnelby is a Normal-type Pokemon that, yes, is an adorable bunny rabbit with huge shovel-shaped ears. Bunnelby can learn the Ground-type move Dig, which removes him fromt the battle for a turn only for him to reappear and attack.
  • Now for Gogoat’s precursor Pokemon, Skiddo. Skiddo also allows players to ride on its back like Gogoat, and can learn the Grass-type ability Leaf Blade. We all know we’ll just be power leveling him for that Gogoat evolution, though.
  • Shalour City Gym Leader Korrina is introduced, living in the city that holds the Tower of Mastery and holding the key to Mega Evolution. Korrina also rides roller skates, though judging from her picture… not well.

Pokemon X and Y is on schedule for launch on the 3DS worldwide on October 12.
