PlayStation VR’s “Time Has Come,” Says Sony

Time for PlayStation VR has come according to Sony Computer Entertainment. The company will be sharing more about it at GDC 2016.

Sony is betting it all of PlayStation VR and the overall growth of the VR market. These devices have been under development for a long time, waiting for the right time to hit the market and introduce a whole new kind of experience to the players.

According to Sony, time has come for VR and Sony is ready. Sony’s Shawn Layden said:

It’s a perfect storm now for VR technology. It’s a concept that’s been kicking around for quite some time. Some of us remember Virtual Boy way back in the day and a lot of different companies have had a go at virtual reality technology.

I think right now we have a combination of the necessary processing power and graphics power inside the machine. We have the display technology which can realize these images at a fidelity which looks natural, if you will. And we have the production technology to create a headset and a rig that is well-suited for the human head that won’t create a tiresome experience.

I think now is the time for VR; its time has come.

Sony will be at GDC this year to share some more details about PlayStation VR. We are hoping to finally hear about its price and final release date. Tune in for GDC 2016 on Tuesday, March 15, at 2pm PT/5pm ET.
