Playstation 4 Pro Sales Reached 238,000 Units In A Single Month

December was a good month for Playstation, and not just because various games like The Last Guardian, Shantae: Half-Genie Hero, and Wild Guns Reloaded released. According to The NPD Group, a data-gathering firm, Playstation 4 Pro sales reached 238,000 units by the end of December, outselling the Xbox One in that period.

For the last few months of 2016 the Xbox One seemed to be making a comeback against the dominance that the Playstation 4 had established over the gaming market, outselling it for several months in a row. However, the release of the Playstation 4 Pro appears to have reversed that, which is all the more important due to the Playstation 4 Pro being an upscaled version of the vanilla Playstation 4.

With Playstation 4 Pro sales combined with those of the Playstation 4 this year, over its lifetime the Playstation 4 has now reached over 1.57 million units sold since its release back in 2013. This has also no doubt been helped along by the release of the Playstation VR, if any gamers bought a Playstation 4 specifically to also play with the Playstation VR.

This puts the Playstation up at least six hundred thousand more units in Playstation 4 and Playstation 4 Pro sales than the Xbox One, which experienced a 10% increase in growth year-over-year with 1.51 million units sold, which still leaves the Playstation 4 far ahead. However, how much longer will the Playstation 4’s dominance last?

With the Xbox One Scorpio coming out, and with its specs being much higher in multiple ways than the Playstation 4 Pro, there’s a chance that the Xbox One and the Scorpio may experience a surge of growth that might, by some miracle, take it past the Playstation 4 and the Playstation 4 Pro, keeping the console wars going for a much longer time.

Either way, most of the growth from the consoles this year appeared to take place in December, around the holiday season, which is the time when most gaming consoles appear. But for more information, fans of both will have to be on the lookout to see if the Scorpio will end up being just as much of a success as the Playstation 4 Pro.
