PlayStation 4’s Media Player has been patched today, though little has been made out of the release. With optimisations and a few other changes, it looks like most of the updates are behind the scenes to improve the experience.
Gamepur have revealed that patch 1.50 for the PlayStation 4 Media Player has gone live today. The changes included are:
- Arabic is now supported
- The closed captioning feature for videos has been improved
- [Display Mode] has been added to [Videos]
- The location of media in [Recently Played] and [Favorites] can now be displayed
- Stability during use of some features has been improved
Reports seem to suggest that the Media Player now runs more smoothly for users. Looking at the updates it’s nice to see that Sony have listened to some feedback from users as well as adding support for more languages.
Hopefully there will be no problems with this update, and so far there seems not to be. If people start to report any crashes, or slowdowns I’m sure we’ll be hearing about them soon.
The PlayStation 4 media player can work from both files held on a home media server, or through USB and supports various formats that include:

With these supported formats there is widespread support for most formats. With the complicated world of media players though there are probably still ones out there that users would like it to support.
