After reading our Pillars of Eternity 2 Deadfire Multiclass Guide, you will be able to create a multiclass character in no time.
Pillars of Eternity 2 Deadfire Multiclass
If you want to combine two of your favorite classes together then you are in luck as Pillars of Eternity 2 Deadfire allows you to do so. You can pick any class and then when asked, choose another class to merge both classes together and create a new, unique class which contains the attributes of both classes but slightly dampened down.
If you plan on going single class then you will be focusing on a single class and unlock new skills and abilities at every level like a normal character. This takes less time and allows characters to reach the maximum level where they can obtain the most powerful abilities and skills.
If you choose to create a multiclass character then it becomes a mixture of both these classes. This results in slower development of the character as skills require higher levels to unlock.
They cannot achieve the highest levels of any class so they are unable to equip the most powerful abilities. Single class characters are also eligible to choose a further subclass, which you can do with multiclass as well. Combine your favorite subclasses together to create even more specialized character.
When you go multiclass, you earn a power level for every 3 levels instead of the normal 2 levels when you are single class. This makes the character development very slow, as you will need to wait more before unlocking skills and abilities. These abilities are also less effective while in multiclass. This is a great tradeoff between more abilities that are less effective and less abilities that are more effective. The level 8 and 9 abilities cannot be achieved due to this very reason.
Coming to the Health, Defense and other skills of each class. When you start with a single class, you will start with a certain number of health, defense and other skill stats such as deflection, reflex, fortitude, and will. When you multiclass, these stats are set according to the average of both the classes.
Increment in these stats when you level up is also based on average of what both classes would have gained separately. Below table lists all the available multiclass options that you can get by combining classes together:

When to go Multiclass
If you are just starting the game, we highly recommend that you do not go multiclass, as it will make your game very slow. It will take a long time for your character to develop rendering him weak for a long time in the game. Only go multiclass when you have played a considerable amount of the game and know all mechanics and gameplay tactics.
