PayPal to Sponsor Wargaming League Grand Finals In April

Publisher Wargaming has announced the details surrounding the Grand Finals of its very own eSports championship. The Wargaming.net League(WGL)  will conclude in a big event starting on April 4 and going through to April 6, 2014.

For the event itself, the WGL will go to Warsaw, Poland. A preceding seeding ceremony will be held on March 24, 2014 in Cologne, Germany.

Participants will be selected from 14 teams and put through a controlled random system to maximize geographic separation. As Wargaming’s titles are most popular in Eastern Europe, we’ll assume this means spreading out those territories.

In the main event in Warsaw, the 14 teams will fight for three days, between 9AM and 7PM CET. These games will be streamed live through the WGL Twitch channels.

During the streaming events, viewers will be able to participate in giveaways. Attendants of the event will be able to receive some swag as well.

For the Grand Finals, Wargaming has put up a prize pool of $300,000. That’s not too shabby for a few rounds of intensive multiplayer action.

More impressively still, none other than capitalist enterprise PayPal is one of the sponsors of the Grand Finals, along with Alienware and Razer. In the press release, the company states:

Supporting the Grand Finals in this amazing town of Warsaw demonstrates our willingness to be close to gamers thanks to our fundamental ability of making payments simple, easy and secure.

We’re not exactly sure what to think of that, but it is a powerful sponsor to have back an event nonetheless.

Keeping things mildly awkward, there’s also a trailer for the Grand Finals with some of the athletes.

All the action can be seen on the Grand Finals website.
