Overwatch Switch Port Runs At 30fps/900p

The recent rumors and leaks about an Overwatch port in the works for Nintendo Switch have now been officially confirmed. Blizzard made the announcement earlier today during the latest Nintendo Direct stream, following which the official website of the game was also updated with loads of relevant information.

What Blizzard skipped out on clarifying in the announcement was just how smoothly Overwatch runs on the Switch. While responding to these queries on Twitter soon after, IMEA communications manager Nazih Fares revealed that the port supports a resolution of 900p when docked and 720p when in handheld mode. In both scenarios, the game runs at a constant rate of 30fps. It doesn’t seem like there’s enough room here to reach the magical 60fps barrier.

Another important thing to know is that Blizzard wasn’t alone in developing this port. Iron Galaxy helped out in the process. For those unaware, Iron Galaxy was previously involved in porting Diablo III to the Switch and that was a commendable job done on the part of the studio. Hence, with such credentials, you can be sure that Overwatch is going to run excellently on the hybrid console.

According to the official blurb, the Switch port of Overwatch will feature immersive gyro controls, “which let players tilt their console to line up the perfect shot as McCree, pilot D.Va through the air, or quickly turn to deflect incoming projectiles as Genji”.

Also, there are several reasons to pre-order the game for those interested. Your purchase will include a three-month membership of Nintendo Switch Online as well as a golden loot box, which guarantees at least one legendary item. Similar to the other versions, Overwatch on Switch will feature all heroes and maps unlocked from day one. This covers 31 heroes and 28 maps in total.

Overwatch is scheduled to release for the Switch on October 15.
