Overwatch 2 Will Have Fewer New Characters Than Overwatch

Another detail that the development team has just announced about Overwatch 2 is that in its launch it will not have as many new characters as Overwatch.

BlizzCon 2019 served to delight all fans of the company and its franchises. One that received a lot of attention is Overwatch, as it was revealed that the sequel is in production. Another detail that the development team has just announced about the game is that in its launch it will not have as many new characters as it happened with Overwatch.

In an interview with VG247, Jeff Kaplan spoke about what has most excited fans: the new characters that will make their debut in Overwatch 2. Although the ambition of the sequel is great, Kaplan warned players not to get too excited and expect the same amount of new characters with which the first installment was released. This time, although, they will be less.

In terms of characters, there will be multiple. It won’t be like Overwatch, in which there were 21, that’s excessive and could be extremely disruptive to the game. But we want it to be big and shocking, so there will be multiple heroes.

On the other hand, during the opening ceremony, Kaplan referred to Sojourn, the new hero who was already known to be in development, but nothing more was said about her, since the creative said it was not the time to do so. Instead, the developer said that several more characters could arrive before this new hero.

We have plans so that at least 1 new hero arrives at the service apart from Overwatch 2. Sojourn is an Overwatch 2 character that we have already confirmed, so it is not she who will arrive soon.

The character that fans expect to arrive earlier is Echo, taking into account that he had already appeared in McCree’s animated short, in addition to being part of the sequel’s trailer. It is natural to think that it will be, especially because Overwatch 2 is expected to arrive, at least, after at least 1 year.

If you missed the announcement trailer, in which Echo appears, we leave you with the video below.

If you’re worried about what will happen with the support for the original title, rest assured that Blizzard won’t let their fans down. In addition, you should know that there is still a lot of time until the sequel arrives, from which many new developments are expected.

I remind you that a launch date for Overwatch 2 wasn’t announced at BlizzCon 2019, but we will let you know as soon as we know more!

In other news, while for many BlizzCon 2019 is an event worthwhile for its surprises and revelations, the truth is that it offers much more, such as its Esports events. One of them was the final phase of the Overwatch World Cup 2019, which already has its champion, which was the United States after facing China in the grand final.

The road from the US to the finale of the World Cup 2019 was difficult. In the group stage they had to face teams like France, South Korea, Switzerland and UK. In this phase they finished undefeated and won a direct ticket to the semifinals, where they once again had to beat South Korea (3-1), a team that had won all previous editions of the Overwatch World Cup.

In the grand finale, the United States team came face to face against that of China in a duel that had political tensions over Blizzard’s decisions and protests in favor of Hong Kong at BlizzCon 2019. USA was in control most of the time and when things went against them they knew how to overcome. Thus, the duel ended with a 3-0 in their favor.
