Outlast Is Heading To Nintendo Switch Early Next Year, Outlast 3 Confirmed

More and more titles are getting ported to Nintendo Switch every day, especially indie ones since Nintendo has given the opportunity to all developers to release their games on the Switch. Outlast developer team, Red Barrels will be grabbing this opportunity bringing their first game of the series to Nintendo’s popular console early next year.

We may not know if the game will launch on Nintendo Switch as a standalone title or as a collection with the addition of DLC. However, a horror title is just what the Switch was missing, especially one like Red Barrel’s series.

Red Barrel’s post on Facebook also revealed that they have no further plans for Outlast 2. That means no DLC will be added to the game, what you saw is what you get:

While the first Outlast was made with the idea of a DLC in mind, that was not the case for Outlast 2. We’ve considered many options, but none of them felt appropriate for a DLC. Outlast 2 was created to make you feel like a rat in a maze, without any knowledge of what’s outside the maze.

What came to a surprise is that the studio didn’t stop with these announcements. According to their post, they are looking into making a third addition to the franchise in the future. Probably that’s a solution to clearing the series name after the mediocre reviews the sequel received.

Last but not least, they revealed that they are are currently working on something we were waiting for, though it’s not related to the main games:

Currently we’re working on something a lot of you have been asking for… It won’t be a sequel to Outlast or Outlast 2, but it will be a distinct experience set in the Outlast universe. We can’t say more right now, we first need to make sure we can make it work. Like I mentioned, we strive to be risk-takers and this one is a pretty big challenge. If all goes well, we’ll soon be able to reveal more.

New project may be related to the first game’s DLC Whistleblower, which, by some, was even better than the first game. Whistleblower has ended in a rather cliffhanging way so seeing another addition to this story may be a cool way to keep the Outlast series going.

Always looking for a deep story, empathetic characters, and a great soundtrack in video games. Hardcore game hoarder and a strong believer that one day Xbox will win the console war.
