The Witcher 3 is regarded as one of the best RPG games in terms of storytelling and gameplay. At the time it was considered a major leap forward for open world games but Danny O’Dwyer, founder of NoClipVideo, doesn’t agree. His views about The Witcher 3 slightly differ from the general population of the gaming industry.

According to Danny, Red Dead Redemption 2 is the actual leap forward for open world games. Meanwhile, The Witcher 3 was a great execution of existing rules learned by video game developers over time.

Witcher 3 wasn’t a leap, it was just a fantastic execution of a lot of the rules developers had learned. Especially storytelling. The weird systemic, emergent storytelling I witnessed in my demo is something I’ve never seen a game do. Not even RPGs. It’s different.

Danny had access to the Red Dead Redemption 2 demo which he played extensively. He shared a number of details about the game and seems highly impressed by what Rockstar has created. He compared the game’s shooting/guns to Max Payne 3 and revealed that there is a kill-cam as well, similar to MP3. However, the game has a Rockstar feel to it, something Max Payne 3 lacked, thus, isn’t a very popular entry into the franchise.

The guns have a pop to then alright. I think comparing them more to Max Payne is splitting hairs. The intimacy of the combat feels more like MP3 and the kill cams. But it feels like a R* game, lets just say that.

However, as far as shooting mechanics go they are close to Red Dead Redemption and GTA V. He mentioned that Red Dead Redemption 2 is the most detailed game he ever played, especially, in terms of its interior. You can look in drawers, hide bodies, known doors, and so much more. Red Dead Redemption 2 has been in development for a long time and it seems Rockstar used that time to the best of their ability. When Rockstar said Red Dead goes beyond story and side missions, it wasn’t kidding around.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is releasing on PS4 and Xbox One on October 26.
