The Okami HD version is now finally available for you to buy on both the Playstation 4, Xbox One, and the PC, meaning that you can finally pick up one of the Playstation 2’s best games and one of the most popular games of all time to play for yourself.
Okami is the story of the Japanese goddess Amaterasu, goddess of the sun, who must travel through Japan (in a beautifully-rendered environment that looks like it came straight out of a Japanese ink wash painting) in order to learn the 13 Celestial Brush techniques while also stopping the monster Orochi, an eight-headed demon that had been sealed in a cave for the past hundred years.
Okami won critical acclaim for its visual style and mechanics, quickly became a classic, which explains why Okami HD is now being released to most current-gen platforms. The game even managed to get a sequel in 2010 on the Nintendo DS called Okamiden, which starred Amaterasu’s son Chibiterasu as he attempted to finish what Amaterasu started and restore life to the land.
Okamiden also got positive reviews and was a modest commercial success, but never got to the same sort of lofty heights that the original Okami did. And, with Okami having come out back in 2006, there’s a whole new generation of gamers that can play Okami HD, along with gamers who played the game in their childhood but might want that bit of masterful nostalgia back.
So, whether you’ve never played Okami and want to see what all the fuss is about, or you haven’t played it in over a decade and want to see if it holds up, you can now pick up Okami HD for the Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The game is only $19.99 on all three of the platforms, so it’s great for a casual purchase.
