Wait For Nvidia GTX 1070 Ti Or Buy AMD Vega 56 Now?

Should you wait for the Nvidia GTX 1070 Ti or buy the AMD Vega 56 now? Here is what you need to know about the 1070 Ti and how it differs.

AMD is good at finding segments in the markets that are vacant and that is where the AMD Vega 56 came in. It has better performance than the Nvidia GTX 1070 and that is why we are going to be betting the Nvidia GTX 1070 Ti at the end of this month. The Nvidia GTX 1070 Ti has specifications close to the GTX 1080.

If you were wondering whether you should buy the AMD Vega 56 or wait for the Nvidia GTX 1070 Ti to come out then you have come to the right place. Here we are going to talk abou the differences between the GTX 1070 and the Nvidia GTX 1070 Ti in order to give you an idea regarding the performance of this upcoming GPU.

While both the 1070 and 1070 Ti seem to be similar there are differences. Talking about the SMX clusters the 1070 has 30 but the 1070 Ti has 38. Moving on to CUDA kernels, the 1070 features 1920 but the 1070 Ti has 2432. Furthermore, the 1070 has 120 texture units while the Nvidia GTX 1070 Ti has 152 texture units. So you can see the difference right away.

The GTX 1070 Ti will be much closer to the GTX 1080 in performance as compared to the GTX 1070 but then again that is pretty obvious from the name. The 1070 Ti has a clock speed of 1 607 MHz and can boost to 1 683 MHz. In comparison, the GTX 1070 has a base clock of 1 506 MHz and can boost to 1 683 MHz.

What this means is that the GTX 1070 Ti has the base clock speed of the GTX 1080 and the boost clock speed of the GTX 1070. Let’s talk about computing power now, while the GTX 1070 features 6 463 GFLOPS the GTX 1070 Ti features 8 186 GFLOPS. This is a 26.7% increase in computing power as compared to the 1070.

The memory bandwidth has also gone up by 12% and the Nvidia GTX 1070 Ti will have a memory bandwidth of 288 GB / s. Keeping all this in mind you can see that the GTX 1070 Ti is indeed great GPU especially if you consider that the price is going to be $429. This is not much of an increase as compared to the GTX 1070 that costs about $379.

The AMD Vega GPUs have been very disappointing even with the more expensive HBM2 memory. On the other hand, these Pascal GPU have already been tried and tested and have passed with flying colors. So The Nvidia GTX 1070 Ti is a safe bet if you have a GTX 1060 or a GTX 1050, the difference might not be that significant as compared to the GTX 1070.

Depending on which GPU you already have, it is safe to say that the Nvidia GTX 1070 Ti is a much more reliable and safe bet even though it is not out yet and we have no performance numbers to back that claim at that moment. Stay tuned for benchmarks and more news regarding the Nvidia GTX 1070 Ti.

Let us know whether you are going to wait for the Nvidia GTX 1070 Ti or going to go with the AMD Vega 56.
