New Super Smash Bros Trademark Might Be Hinting At New SSB Game?

Nintendo has filed a new Super Smash Bros trademark, which might be a sign that a new Super Smash Bros game could be on the way soon.

Nintendo has filed a new Super Smash Bros trademark, which might mean that we could be getting a new Super Smash Bros game sometime in the future, if this means what we think (and hope) it means. The Nintendo Switch still doesn’t have a Smash game, not even the last one.

Even though the previous Super Smash Bros game came out at the tail end of the Wii U’s run, there hasn’t been any news that the game will be ported over to the Nintendo Switch. This is in spite of a number of games that also came out around that period being ported to the Switch in relatively short order, such as Pokken Tournament and Mario Kart 8.

Exactly why Nintendo hasn’t tried to port Super Smash Bros Wii U over to the Switch remains to be seen, but the possibility of a new game through a new Super Smash Bros trademark might just give the Switch yet another system-seller along with the likes of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Fire Emblem: Warriors, and Super Mario Odyssey.

While the new trademark is just one in a large number of other Nintendo games that the studio has filed for (including Animal Crossing, The Legend of Zelda, and Splatoon), hopefully it at least means that they’re working on a new game, rather than them just renewing the trademark to keep the franchise under their control.

Either way, whatever Nintendo has planned for Super Smash Bros, a new Super Smash Bros trademark still hopefully means that another new game is in the making. We may learn about it in a year or two, or even longer than that considering the gap between Super Smash Bros Brawl and the Wii U game, but even so, the Switch could definitely use a Super Smash Bros game.
