The Coalition has now released a new Gears 5 versus tech test trailer giving players the first look at Arcade mode. The Arcade mode is a jump-in / jump-out game mode consisting of different hero characters. Each of these hero characters will come with distinct abilities and weapon upgrades.

Arcade Team deathmatch will be available for the players to try out when the technical test of Gears 5 starts later this week. In Arcade TDM, every team which gets 50 kills first will win. According to the developer, this mode is unlike any previous Gears TDM in the series.

Players will have different hero characters to choose from. Each hero character comes with a unique combat style bounty, a loadout, and a dedicated set of weapon upgrades.

Gears 5 technical test will feature a total of 5 characters that the players can choose from to play within Arcade Team Deathmatch mode.

The characters and their specifications are as follows as provided by The Coalition.

HUNTER – KAIT / SWARM HUNTER

  • Passive: Increased Movement Speed
  • Bounty: Execute for an additional Skull
  • Loadout: Hammerburst, Talon Autopistol, Smoke Grenade
  • Upgrades: Boltok, Incendiary Grenades, Torque Bow

The developer mentions that Kait and the Swarm Hunter are versatile characters due to their fast movements and vision-blocking smoke grenades.

SUPPORT – JD / SWARM DRONE

  • Passive: Spot enemies who damage you. Enemies you spot reward health to killer.
  • Bounty: Multi-kill for an additional Skull.
  • Loadout: Lancer, Snub Pistol, Flashbangs
  • Upgrades: 3 Random Weapon upgrade slots of varying quality

JD and the Drone are healers. Both characters will provide healing to their teammates that kill the enemies have been marked from a long distance.

HEAVY – DEL / SCION

  • Passive: Receive Stim(Extra health above the normal maximum) for Kills
  • Bounty: Multi-kill for an additional Skull
  • Loadout: Hammerburst, Talon Autopistol
  • Upgrades: Buzzkill, Mulcher, RL-4 Salvo

Del or the Scion are all about guns thus they have slower movements as compared to others. Every kill that you accomplish with Del or the Scion will reward you with additional health (Stim). These heavy gunners will help you get out in front of everyone and help your team survive.

CQB – MARCUS / SWARM GRENADIER

  • Passive: Cover slide speed and distance increased
  • Bounty: Execute for an additional Skull
  • Loadout: Enforcer, Snub Pistol, Smoke Grenade
  • Upgrades: Shock Grenades, Gnasher, Breaker Mace

MARCUS or SWARM heroes are all about close combats. Their loadouts consist of close range weaponary. As for close range encounters, these heroes have the ability to take cover quickly.

SNIPER – FAHZ / SWARM SNIPER

  • Passive: Immune to flinching when ADS or fully scoped
  • Bounty: Headshot kill for an additional Skull
  • Loadout: Lancer, Talon Autopistol, Flashbang
  • Upgrades: Boltok, Marzka, Longshot

As the name suggests, these heroes are snipers and for those players who like to kill from long distances. Both Fahz and the Swarm Sniper can take hits without any flinch.

Apart from characters, each kill will reward you with skulls that the players can use to purchase upgrades from each character’s unique weapon tree. You can use these skulls at any time to upgrade, even during matches. In addition to this, players can earn skulls faster by using each character’s specific bounty.

With that said, Gears 5 tech test is scheduled to start on July 19. As for how to get Gears 5 beta? You need Xbox Game Pass or Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription to do so.

Gears 5 will release on September 10, 2019, for Microsoft Xbox One and PC.
