NBA 2K16 Totally Destroyed NBA Live 16 at Retail, Future Looks Grim for NBA Live

Basketball fans who play videogames usually choose between two franchises, the one owned by Electronic Arts and the one owned by 2K Sports. However, when it comes to NBA 2K16 and NBA Live 16, it appears that fans did not even weigh the two against each other.

In a massive majority of the cases of retail in the US, they simply chose to ignore NBA Live 16 in favor of NBA 2K16.

If you check out the NPD Sales results of the month of September, you will see that while 2K Sports’ title outdid games like Madden NFL 16, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, FIFA 16, Destiny: The Taken King, Super Mario Maker, Disney Infinity 3.0 and numerous others by managing to sell about 1.1M units.

On the other hand, NBA Live 16 sold about 8300 copies – that’s right eight thousand and three hundred.

This is such a serious alarm for Electronic Arts and it has been rung countless times already. The series was once cancelled because it was not good enough and did not sell well. However, for some reason the franchise was rebooted with NBA Live 14 followed by NBA Live 15 and now NBA Live 16.

We think it is about time that EA accepts the fact that they are wasting time and money trying to compete with 2K Sports’ title, NBA 2K16 should be reason enough for them to stop making the game.
