With the release of Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection one thing you’ll notice is the lack of story driven DLC; the simple reason being there was none. In 2016 though with the release of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End this will change as the game becomes the first in the series to get its own single-player downloadable content.
While speaking about at the GameSpot Expo details about the DLC were revealed by Naughty Dog’s Arne Meyer, who revealed that they will be taking inspiration from The Last Of Us’ story expansion Left Behind. When asked about it, he said:
“It worked really well for us for The Last of Us,” Meyer explained. “We thought we could put together a really great piece of content as well [for Uncharted 4].”
“I think we rose to the challenge for The Last of Us, so we decided we’re going to take another shot at it [for Uncharted 4]”
Left Behind was a piece of additional storyline which worked as a prequel to the main story. Revealing Ellie’s story before she met Joel and introducing players to Riley, a character that was hinted at in the main game.
With Uncharted 4 hinting at being the final story of Nathan Drake it will be interesting to see where they could take a single-player storyline in the game. Would it be a prequel to the main story or take place afterwards and who would it include? As we saw in Left Behind there isn’t a need to focus on the main character, which I’m sure would interest fans especially if it focused on Sully or Elana.
